Rob Key misses out on captaincy
Here is England’s squad for the World Twenty20 this summer:
Paul Collingwood (captain), James Anderson, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Andrew Flintoff, James Foster, Robert Key, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Eoin Morgan, Graham Napier, Kevin Pietersen, Owais Shah, Ryan Sidebottom, Graeme Swann, Luke Wright
Here are the fifteen from the provisional 30 who missed out:
Kabir Ali (injured), Gareth Batty, Ian Bell, Tim Bresnan, Stephen Davies, Joe Denly, Stephen Harmison, Sajid Mahmood, Samit Patel, Liam Plunkett, Matt Prior, Adil Rashid, Chris Tremlett, Shaun Udal, Chris Woakes
Some of these omissions make sense – Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid have very little Twenty20 experience, for instance. Many would perhaps argue for the inclusion of Joe Denly, but the biggest issue is over the captaincy. Paul Collingwood gave up the limited overs captaincy last year as his form suffered a dramatic slump. He had also been suspended for poor over-rates.
As previously posted, Rob Key would have been GCW’s choice as captain, but we knew it would be Colly several days ago.
