ECB get another chance to ruin English cricket

News that the television rights are up for sale for the new P20 that begins next year.  Nothing worrying about that, I hear you say.  Until you find out that the bid of ESPNStar is conditional on each team including at least one Indian player.  Presumably this is team and not squad, as their would be no point in making this demand if the player was not guaranteed to play.  The logic, if that’s what you can call it, would be that this would increase the interest in the filthy rich Indian market.

So if the ECB goes with the wallet and accepts the ESPN bid, which is likely to be substantial, for the Indian broadcast rights, they will essentially begin the process of signing away their own teams right to select their own players.

The ECB are always guided by their coffers.  The mind boggles.
