County Cricket Team of the Month May

With only four championship matches in May, this months selection naturally focuses mostly on performances in the limited overs matches.

  1. Alistair Cook: Who knew?  Two rapid half-centuries in the T20 Cup prove that either we were all wrong about Cook, or that he has recently been abducted by aliens and returned as a new, improved version.
  2. Ed Joyce: Two hundreds in the FP Trophy, both against Durham, and 74 against Somerset as Sussex qualified for the semi-finals.
  3. Mark Ramprakash: Always scores runs against Middlesex.  Always.  Another century in the championship against his former team, and 182 runs at 45 in the T20 Cup.
  4. Jonathan Trott: A big unbeaten century against Yorkshire in the championship, another against Middlesex in the FP Trophy at Lords, and the leading run-scorer so far in the T20 Cup.
  5. Eoin Morgan: A big hundred in the FP Trophy against Kent, including this audacious stroke.  Further half-centuries against Warwickshire and Scotland, and was missed in the quarter final defeat against Hampshire.
  6. Francois du Plessis: Scored 113 not out from just 75 balls for Lancashire as Essex were blown away in the FP Trophy quarter final. Simarlarly explosive in the T20 Cup, and handy wickets as well.
  7. Ian Harvey: Runs and wickets for Northants in the T20 Cup, including 64 from 37 balls & 3-24 against Glamorgan and 4-18 against Warwickshire
  8. Steven Davies: Two blistering one-day innings – 82 not out from 59 balls against Notts in the FP Trophy and 73 from 48 against Warwickshire in the T20 Cup.
  9. Peter Connell: Ireland bowled Worcestershire out for 58 in the FP Trophy.  Connell returned figures of 7-3-19-5.  Worcestershire were knocked out of the competition in the resulting defeat.
  10. Chris Woakes: Showed everyone what he can do by taking 6 wickets for England Lions against West Indies.
  11. Sajid Mahmood: 10 wickets helped Lancashire to a comfortable win over Worcestershire in the Championship.
