Alistair Cook does Twenty20

Something has clearly happened to Alistair Cook recently.  Not content with a couple of quickfire half-centuries, he has now smashed 100 off only 57 balls against Surrey in the T20 Cup.  That’s a strike rate of 175.43.  For a player renowned for his sedateness at the crease, this is some achievement.

Centuries in T20 are relatively rare – the recent World T20 did not produce any.  So, by way of comparison, here are the top T20 scores of some of the members of England’s squad:

  1. Ravi Bopara – 84
  2. Luke Wright – 103
  3. KP – 79
  4. Stuart Broad – 41
  5. Owais Shah – 79
  6. Dimi Mascarenhas – 57*
  7. Paul Collingwood – 79
  8. Eoin Morgan – 66
  9. Rob Key – 68*
  10. Graham Napier – 152*

So now you know the reason why England did not win the World T20: Alistair Cook.

The world’s turned upside down. It’s only a matter of time now before Collingwood gets clocked at 90mph.

Good for Cook, but with the Ashes coming up soon, don’t know how this will help.

Krish – at least it shows he’s in good form. Mostly it shows that we are wrong to assume he is only a test player.
